Go Green!

It’s Time to Go Green!

Spring is officially here! A perfect time to start going green; Meaning eating clean, green, and organic. Going green is important for your health and the environment.

Eating and supporting organic products has a lot of benefits. When you eat organic, you reduce the amount of toxins that could enter your body because organic farmers don’t use the toxic pesticides that are used in chemical crops. Supporting organic crops also helps reduce farm pollution, such as pesticides and synthetic fertilizer polluting the land and spreading to other areas through air, water, and soil. This will also lead to building healthier soil.

Eating and supporting organic farms will also help protect future generations. Since organic farms don’t use pesticides, you are eliminating the high risk of affecting the nervous system, increasing the risk of cancer, and decreasing fertility that pesticides usually do. One of the most popular benefits of eating organic is receiving a better flavor that foods have to offer. When eating organic you will avoid poor science in your food such as GMO’s and rBGH (cloned food). Overall, eating organic will reduce health risks. Eating organic for even five days will help eliminate pesticide residues that are in your body.

Are you doing your part? Going green isn’t just about your diet, it can also be about exercising. Taking care of your body through proper exercise is an essential step to a healthy life. With the weather warming up, it’s good to do some outside walking and running; whether it’s walking your pets or walking to work. Walking to work will also help the environment as you are putting less pollution in the air by driving your vehicle.

Trigger Points

Trigger Points!

When experiencing pain you might have all sorts of unpleasant physical reactions. Some responses are tight muscles, which may progress to localized knots known as trigger points, and even muscle spasms. These responses are not a good thing and can spread into more intense pain. Trigger points are usually caused when a muscle is injured or overworked. This can cause joint pain, headaches, neck and jaw pain, back pain, tennis elbow, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Trigger points can produce referred pain, referred tenderness, motor dysfunction, and autonomic phenomena. The lack of exercise, prolonged poor posture, vitamin deficiencies, sleep disturbances, and joint problems may all influence the development of micro-trauma. Occupational or recreational activities that produce repetitive stress on a specific muscle or muscle group can cause chronic stress in the muscles and lead to trigger points.

These painful muscle knots arise as a consequence of mechanical disturbances and stress in the rest of the body. Attempting to treat trigger points with injections or medications misses the real problem. Trigger points are best managed by directing care to the underlying issues, primarily involving loss of full mobility of spinal vertebras and resultant inflammation in spinal muscles.

The best solution to these types of pain involve finding the underlying cause of the problem. Usually the underlying cause is biomechanical. Often pain results from the lack of full mobility of spinal vertebras and result in irritation and inflammation. Problems may form when the irritation and inflammation start to affect spinal nerves. If there is nerve inflammation, that could cause problems with other tissues and organs.

By addressing the underlying cause of biomechanical pain, chiropractic care can help restore maximum function to the spinal column and spinal nerves. The long-term result is enhanced health and well-being for you and your family.

This muscular pain can be relieved through applying pressure to trigger points and through stretching exercises. Applying pressure to the areas experiencing pain can assist with redevelopment of muscles and help restore motion to joints. By strengthening, toning, and massaging pain areas, flexibility and strength can be regained. Benefits of fixing trigger points include: relieving pain, increasing mobility of the spine and muscles, stress relief, relief of headaches, and improved flexibility and circulation.

Detox!

Detox: Is it for you?

It’s time for some spring cleaning! The perfect time for detoxifying your body. Our bodies naturally detoxify every day, which is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin. Detox is a way to recharge and rejuvenate your body. Proper detox includes resting, cleansing the body, and nourishing the body from the inside out. Detox can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain good health.

Detox is used to rid the body of toxic elements. Toxins come from everyday modern life activities. These include pollutants in the air, chemicals used in everyday jobs, the foods we eat, and even the water we drink. Health problems start to occur in the case of toxic overload, poor nutritional status, and an individual’s ability or inability to excrete toxic elements. It is important to know that it is impossible to completely rid the body of toxins. It is possible to avoid major health problems and clean your body of most toxic elements by becoming aware of toxic elements in your environment.

Detox starts by cleansing the blood by removing impurities from blood in the liver which improves the circulation of the blood. These toxins are then processed to be eliminated out of the body by being flushed out in the urine or feces. Detox includes promoting elimination through intestines, kidneys, and the skin and then refueling the body with healthy and proper nutrients.

How do you know if detox is for you? There are many signs and symptoms of toxic overload that might direct you towards detox. Some of these symptoms are feeling congested from eating too much food or the wrong kinds of food, energy level is low, taking a lot of medications, unexplained fatigue, sluggish elimination, irritated skin, allergies, low-grade infections, puffy eyes or bags under the eyes, bloating, menstrual problems, and mental confusion.

Proper detox can include resting your organs through fasting, dieting programs, and exercising. If you plan on fasting or changing your diet, it is important to consult with your doctor first. We offer convenient detox “Kits” to aid in your follow through with getting healthier. Other at home remedies you can perform for detox are eliminating coffee and alcohol, cigarettes and second hand smoke, refined sugars and saturated fats; minimize the use of chemical based household cleaners and personal health care products; and substitute natural alternatives and find ways to relieve stress such as yoga or meditation. Getting adjusted regularly allows your body to constantly detox.

We recommend eating as healthy as you can and eliminating processed foods and fast foods. It is important to exercise as it is a healthy way to reduce stress and sweat out some of those toxins. It is very important to remain hydrated with water and getting a proper amount of rest while detoxing. We also recommend consulting with one of our doctors here at Appleton Chiropractic and coming in and getting a footbath detox! A footbath detox is used to open up the pores in your feet and allowing toxins to exit your body through the pores!

*Special: purchase a cleansing package and receive 50% off of a footbath! Valid Monday April 7th, 2014.*
